I create work that embraces bad taste & surfaces of cosmetic violence to explore complex issues intersecting class, gender, and race.
My recent work is a reaction to raunch culture- the values and aesthetics of red light entertainment inserted into pop culture- by deliberately reifying these very systems and stereotypes to examine the 'enlightened sexism' of the post-feminist media landscape.
By dissecting and reconstructing female representations in pop culture through racy agitprop, overpainted pornography, manipulated text, amateur rap videos, websites, and webcam interventions, I engage in radical 'bimbo feminism'. To assert and subvert the commodification of femininity & sexuality within our current media driven porno-industrial complex, I amplify the grotesque. This industry aesthetic has leaked into the American cultural and economic mainstream- itself an industrial pussy.
